In case you didn’t see my last post, I just read Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan. The book is set around Singapore’s “biggest wedding of the year”, and involves 4 generations of Chinese business tycoons jockeying for ultimate position. It reads like Downton Abbey for the 20-something jet-set: a light read full of uber-wealthy back-stabbers, suck-ups and crabby old women! The book totally reminded me of my trip to Singapore last July and one awesome night filled with amazing food at Lau Pa Sat.
Here’s the quote about Lau Pa Sat:
On my second day in Singapore, I was taken to Newton hawker centre. It was crammed full of people (because none other than GORDON RAMSAY was there to compete in a culinary face-off with several local chefs), the air was filled with smoke and every table was covered with DELICIOUS food. But nothing there could compare to the dumplings and satay at Lau Pa Sat deep in the financial district for the food and the architecture – check out the metal work! It was like having Asian cuisine on the set of My Fair Lady. I loved it. Truly, food in Singapore is second to none!
